Categories, groups & brands
Organise products three ways in Storeflea — Category, Group and Brand — so billing search, reports and your online store stay tidy.
Quick steps
- 1
Open Inventory tabs
In Inventory, use the Categories, Groups and Brands tabs to manage each.
- 2
Create a category
Add a category (e.g. Sweets, Cold Drinks). This is the main classification and can be nested under a parent.
- 3
Add groups & brands (optional)
Create stock Groups and Brands for extra organisation.
- 4
Assign on the product
Set Category (Identity screen) and, optionally, Group and Brand (Details screen) when you create or edit a product.
As your product list grows, Storeflea gives you three separate ways to organise it — matching the Tally model. Creating your first category is the first item on the setup checklist for good reason.
The three organisers
- Category — the main classification (Sweets, Namkeen, Tiles…). It's set on the product's Identity screen, and categories can be nested under a parent. This is what the onboarding "create your first category" step makes.
- Group — an additional stock grouping (Tally "stock group"), set on the product's Details screen. Use it for a second axis of organisation.
- Brand — the manufacturer/brand, also on Details. Handy for brand-wise reporting (and it ties into salesman commission, which is brand-based).
Each lives on its own tab in Inventory (Categories, Groups, Brands — alongside Items and Units), so you manage them independently.
Why organise
- Faster billing — filter or browse by category at the counter.
- Better reports — see sales and stock by category, group or brand.
- Tidy online store — your website and marketplace group products sensibly.
- Commission — brand-wise organisation feeds salesman commission.
Keep it simple to start
You don't need all three. Start with just a Category per product; add Group and Brand later when you want the extra reporting. Broad, obvious buckets that match how you think about your shop work best — you can rename or restructure any time.
A sweets shop might use categories Sweets / Namkeen / Dry Fruits / Beverages; a sanitaryware shop Faucets / Showers / Tiles — with brands layered on top.
Frequently asked
What's the difference between a category, a group and a brand in Storeflea?
They're three separate organisers. Category is the main classification (set on the product's Identity screen, can be nested, and is what onboarding's 'first category' creates). Group is an extra stock grouping (Tally stock group) on the Details screen. Brand is the manufacturer, also on Details, and feeds brand-wise reporting and salesman commission.
Do I have to use groups and brands?
No. You can organise with just a Category per product and add Groups and Brands later when you want the extra reporting. Each is managed on its own Inventory tab.
